meet owlly, Rev. Rose Shepley

Rose is co-hosting our upcoming virtual retreat: Center, Connect, Create. You might notice we share a name. Then you might think we resemble each other a little, and then, I suspect, you’ll want to ask, “Are you sisters?” So, let’s begin there.

Rose is my sister-in-law. She married my husband’s brother following a long courtship that started at my own wedding. Long before then, when we were six years old, Rose and I became friends, and we’ve fought and loved like sisters ever since. Rose is a shining star, and I’ve been honored to grow up with her and be “Aunt” to her children and her to mine.

We have dreamed about this retreat together through a handful of major life transitions and each of our creative recoveries. Not to mention a global pandemic and other broader context changes and challenges. The pieces are here for a magical experience. We’re just missing you.

Now, for a little more formal introduction:

Rev. Rose Shepley is a faith leader, ordained in the United Church of Christ, with a passion for advocacy and social justice. She is inspired by the rebel Jesus, prophets old and new who embody love and incarnate justice, and people far and wide who live into their own calls to transform the world. She currently serves as the chaplain for Bethany Children’s Home, a UCC partner in ministry.

Rose graduated in May 2019 with a Master of Divinity from Lancaster Theological Seminary. From the fall of 2015 until December 2019, she faithfully served St. John’s UCC in Shamokin, PA as a licensed pastor. In Oct 2019, she began doctoral studies and expects to receive her Doctor of Ministry from LTS in the spring of 2023. Her research is focused on the pastoral care needs of the LGBTQ+ community in rural areas.

Southern Gothic Literature, Science Fiction, and Dystopia are her jam. She also loves American horror and boundary pushing graphic novels. Rose believes incorporating literature, art, music, and performance into our spiritual practices enriches our experience and understanding of this life.
