The planet is full of humans going about their usual business today and changing the world with every step. Each one of us fills a space here in a way only we can, and we share our particular brand of energy that only we produce. Each is vital. Sometimes we feel stuck in the sameness of our routine or become so good at doing our thing that we lose touch with the reason we do the thing at all. Whether that thing is caregiving or serving hungry families or cutting into someone’s brain or painting our innermost conflicts or writing a life lesson learned, we keep showing up, doing the thing, or we may lose the will to show up at all. The feeling as if something is missing, as if there’s more to life than this, grabs hold of us, and we feel stuck. Our lives are “pretty good.” We “should be grateful.” We might even tell ourselves to “snap out of it” and “get back to reality.”
What if we kept going with the daydream instead? What if we explored the questions instead of chasing them with a “sobering” script? What if there is more joy to be discovered here…somewhere? Right where you are. As you are.
If any of this is resonating, you are not alone. You’re in the right place. The really good news is that you’ve already warmed up for this trek just by noticing and accepting that stuck feeling. That’s where I started too. I felt the words “I just feel stuck” come out of my mouth, and I immediately wanted to ctrl+z in real time. I’m actually grateful that I couldn’t take it back because next I learned that is a natural part of the creative process, and life is a creative process.
